Sheri Smith Brings Art to Chicago's Jazz Clubs

SAIC alum Sheri Smith (BFA 1973) who goes by the name Crème Sheri was recently featured on WTTW's Chicago Tonight program. Smith has made a name for herself by sketching the musicians in Chicago's jazz clubs. The artist likens her work to automatic writing, saying, "the sound comes through my head, goes into my arms and into my hands, and I’m there, and it just moves. My hand is moving, just like that. Smith who is a retired Chicago Public Schools art teacher is the resident artist at the Roger's Park jazz club, Le Piano and also shows her work at galleries.
