The O'Hare International Airport expansion proposal by Studio ORD.

Jeanne Gang to Lead Team of Architects for New O’Hare Airport Project

The Chicago Tribune announced that renowned Chicago architect and SAIC honorary degree recipient Jeanne Gang (HON 2013) will lead Studio ORD, a team of architects who will design the massive O’Hare International Airport expansion. Expected to begin in 2023, the expansion “will allow travelers to more seamlessly move between domestic and international flights at O’Hare,” reports the Tribune. Gang will be the first woman to lead the design of a major US airport project reports Crain’s Chicago Business. “An airport commission is the highest-profile commission an architect can get. It's good for Chicago architecture to have a Chicago-based firm selected," he says. "To have a female architect at the top of her game in a historically male-dominated profession (win a competitive bid) sends a clear and powerful message,” said Thomas Kerwin, principal of BKL Architecture, to Crain’s.

Studio Gang, helmed by Jeanne Gang, was one of the contributors to the US Pavilion’s entry for the Venice Architecture Biennale’s exhibit Dimensions of Citizenship. The installation, Stone Stories,  is currently on view at Chicago’s Wrightwood 659.
