Dimensions of Citizenship Debuts in Chicago
Dimensions of Citizenship: Architecture and Belonging from the Body to the Cosmos makes its US premiere after its debut at the Venice Biennale last year, reports the Chicago Reader. The exhibition, which was curated by Iker Gil, lecturer in the Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects (AIADO) department; Ann Lui, assistant professor in AIADO; Niall Atkinson; and Mimi Zeiger, will be shown in Chicago at Wrightwood 659 from February 28 to April 27. The seven immersive installations explore the meaning of citizenship, home, the dynamics of borders and architecture's role in belonging. Lui expresses in the Architectural Digest, "These themes have been so much in the news lately. Whether it's the government shutdown over a wall at the border, the removal of Confederate monuments, or protests in airport lobbies. ... what it means to belong is an urgent topic to a lot of people—it's really important for architects, landscape architects, and designers to respond." The exhibit's US debut was also mentioned in Curbed Chicago.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
