Ni'Ja Whitson's Experiments Win the 2019 Creative Capital Award
Ni’Ja Whitson (Degree xx) was given the 2019 Creative Capital Award. With the project funding Whitson is developing The Unarrival Experiments, “an interdisciplinary performance project exploring relationships between astrophysics, cosmology, Blackness, Trans embodiedness and premature death via a notion of the vaporous body.” As a gender-nonconforming/transmogrifying artist, Whitson brings together African Diasporic practices to experiment with gender, sexuality, race, and spirit.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
