Google Doodle Features SAIC Alum for Native American Heritage Month

Amanda Crowe (DIP 1952) was honored on November 9 on Google Doodle as the figure who led a resurgence of Native American art. Crowe is best known for her work in the Cherokee woodcarving tradition at the country’s oldest American Indian Cooperative in Cherokee, North Carolina, as well as the 1956 illustrated book Cherokee Legends and the Trail of Tears. "The grain challenges me to create objects in three dimensions. A mistake or flaw in the wood will improve your design. To me, a knot can be the best part." CNET and Google Doodle report Crowe said of her practice.
