Meet the Artist Taking "Acid Bites" in Feminist Critique

Genesis Belanger (BFA 2004), fashion designer-cum-sculptor who studied with SAIC’s Nick Cave and interned at Moschino in Milan, uses her behind-the-scenes insight to an industry that processes and produces femininity in order to critique it. Her porcelain and stoneware sculptures have “an acid bite” reports the New York Times, that play with feminine clichés like high heels and cigarette butts to “upend these stereotypes.” Belanger told the Times, “I wanted to build narratives that dealt with some of the ways that women are complex.”
