Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence Go to SAIC Students

Congratulations to the SAIC students who were awarded first and second place in the Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence. The first place award went to Anna Loosli (BFA 2017), second place to Carrie McMahon (BFA 2018), and third place to Verneccia Etienne from Columbia College.

The 16th annual Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence showcase Chicago's emerging student designers who represent the best in innovation, craftsmanship, and creativity. The gala runway event, held April 28 featured the work of 25 students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College, the Illinois Institute of Art, and Dominican University.  Judges included a retail executive, head of wardrobe at the Joffrey Ballet, and local fashion and jewelry designers. "I thought this would be good for Chicago and to give these young college students a way to express themselves, as well as give them an opening into the industry. ... I defy you to determine what schools come from Chicago and what schools come from Paris or London or LA. I think our students may actually do better," said Richard Driehaus to the Chicago Tribune.
