Eugenia Cheng Interviewed in the Chronicle of Higher Education

In addition to being a classically-trained pianist, foodie, and humorist, SAIC scientist-in-residence and faculty Eugenia Cheng (Liberal Arts) is also an accomplished mathematician. She recently sat down with the Chronicle of Higher Education to talk about her new book Beyond Infinity: An Expedition to the Outer Limits of Mathematics, why math is important, and what it's like teaching art students math. One of the reasons she gives for the importance of math is that it teaches how to think clearly. "But there’s something else, and that’s just how to think clearly. And a liberal arts system should be about becoming a human being who can think clearly," she says.
