Reviews Soar for Rashid Johnson's New Exhibit

Fall was a busy time for alum Rashid Johnson (SAIC 2003–04), who opened his show Fly Away at the New York gallery Hauser & Wirth to much critical acclaim. Playing with large-scale mosaics, sculptures, and collages, Johnson explored themes such as the vulnerabilities of the Black male body, performing without interacting, and anxieties about “selling out." The New York Times and the Village Voice both reviewed the show favorably; Bloomberg made a case for investing in his large-scale pieces; and Forbes called it the "most important and timely exhibition of the year." Ending the year on a high note.
