SAIC Alumni Duo Luftwerk to Illuminate 606 Bridge

Petra Bachmaier (BFA 1999) and Sean Gallero (SAIC 1993–98), part of the artist duo Luftwerk, have been tapped to create a major public light installation for the 606 bike-and-walk trail. The project, entitled “Turning Sky,” will incorporate dynamic LED lighting to create a visualization of shifts in weather the duo told Chicagoist. Bachmaier and Gallero intend to use humidity and temperature to change the color of the LED lights that will run along the cables of the bridge over Damen Avenue in the Bucktown neighborhood. The project is intended to be installed mid-December and stay for five years.
