SAIC's Efforts to Create Gender-Safe Environment Recognized by PBS

PBS' Religion & Ethics Newsweekly published a news piece on transgender people, society, and theology, in which the efforts made by SAIC to create a gender-safe environment were recognized. "The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where a significant number of the students identify as gay or transgender, provides gender-neutral bathrooms and housing," said correspondent Judy Valente. In addition, Associate Director of Public Relations at SAIC, Bree Witt spoke of the recent change to SAIC's student health insurance, which now covers gender reassignment surgery and hormone therapy.

SAIC was also recently honored with a HEED Award for Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives, and was selected based on the school’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and efforts to embrace a broad definition of diversity on campus. The School will be featured in Insight Into Diversity magazine’s November 2014. issue.
