Incoming SAIC Student to Receive “Rising Star” Youth Award
The second annual Fifth Star Awards will award incoming SAIC student, Abdullah Quick, the inaugural Rising Star Youth Award. Quick will be studying Printmedia and Photography at SAIC on the Walter and Shirley Massey Chicago Fund full-tuition scholarship. The Rising Star Youth Award celebrates the achievement of promising Chicago youth with career aspirations in the arts. Quick has also been awarded the Adobe Voices Award and has been selected twice for the All-City Visual Arts Competition.
Last year, internationally recognized sculptor and SAIC alum, Richard Hunt (BA 1957), was among the honorees of Chicago’s Fifth Star Awards. The award references the Chicago flag’s four stars representing important historical events and virtues, with the imagined fifth star representing Chicago’s artists.

In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
