Grant for International Conference on the History of Art and Design in Chicago

Bess Williamson, Assistant Professor of Design History at SAIC, along with Jonathan Mekinda, Assistant Professor of Architectural History at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) have been awarded a grant to fund an international conference on the history of art and design in Chicago. The Terra Foundation has announced an award of $25,000 to fund a two-day international conference in fall 2018 that will feature both established and emerging speakers presenting research on the city’s contributions to American design history of the 20th century. The conference will be hosted jointly at SAIC and UIC. Here at SAIC, it will highlight the new graduate program track in Design History within the Master of Arts in Modern and Contemporary Art History and the growth of the Design History curriculum within the Department of Art History.
