Thomas Hart Benton's Home and Studio Historic Site, open for visitors in Kansas City, MO
The Chicago Tribune featured the Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio Historic Site in Kansas City. The site, now a part of a Missouri state park, opened up the artist’s studio to the public, in a carriage house he converted into a workspace. Visitors experience his home just as it was when he lived there, complete with original furniture, his library collection, sketches, and art supplies.
Benton was a renowned regionalist painter and muralist of the Midwest in the 1930s–50s. He attended SAIC (1907–09) before going on to teach Jackson Pollock. The Tribune called him “a quintessentially American artist who reflected his times and environs” and the preservation of his quarters in the Kansas City state park will ensure that essence lives on.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
