Alumni at Roots and Culture

Roots and Culture’s current exhibition features alumni Montgomery Perry Smith (BFA 2008) and Kate O’Neill (BFA 2005, MFA 2013). O’Neill’s work in the show stems from her photo series Ride Into the Sun On Repeat. The black-and-white photos recapture and alter a selected image from a 1970’s gardener’s manual, with various lighting manipulations. These photos transform under the black lights the gallery space casts on both artists’ works. Smith’s mixed-media sculptures and installations incorporate glow-in-the-dark paint that adds thematic dimension to the sexual innuendos found in the work.
