Student Jordan Barrant Awarded Pulitzer Reporting Fellowship

Filmmaker, writer, and curator Jordan Barrant, who recently graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), was awarded a Pulitzer Reporting Fellowship. Barrant will explore the connections between Jamaican and Southern self-taught artists, delving into shared narratives of ancestral and land-based memory, identity, and cultural exchange. Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellowships support groundbreaking student journalism projects through funding and mentorship.

While pursuing a Master of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies at SAIC, Barrant co-founded The Coalition of Black Restorative Artists (COBRA), a student-run organization promoting community and resource sharing among Black graduate students at SAIC and the greater Black Chicago community. The Boston-raised multi-hyphenate has also worked with the LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project and co-curated The Black Domestic exhibition at SAIC's SITE Gallery.
