Smith is current Creative Director of Areaware, a Brooklyn-based design studio that features the work of established and emergent designers. Recently featured in Dwell magazine, Areaware products have been distributed internationally in retailers such as West Elm, Superstudio CPH, and BAS Trading. In the past Smith served as cofounder of ODLCO, a design studio in Chicago’s West Loop. At ODLCO Smith specialized in design curation and exhibition design, working with regional manufacturers to develop work by independent designers.
With her Stories by Strangers project, student Nitya Mehrotra uses her skills as an artist to tell the stories of sexual and mental abusive survivors.
