Five undergraduate students from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) are among 30 artists whose work will be on display through February 18 at A Very Serious Gallery at 673 North Milwaukee Avenue. The show, Winter Dreams, focuses on bringing light and warmth into the darkest days of the season. Jackie Patino created a painting about the Latin American posadas festivals that take place around Christmas, and reflect Patino’s own cultural heritage. Pamela Maurer created an entire interior environment, which she approached “like an artist might approach a portrait,” as she explained in an interview with WTTW

Other SAIC students included in the show are Milica Zekic, Sam Starke, and Seri Zou. Patino told WTTW that the show, which opened on January 6, has helped build community—“especially during the coldest times, when people are traveling and disoriented.”
