February 2025: Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Associate Professor, Adj. Mary Cross published her short story, "Flying into Darkness,” in the December 2024 issue of the New Ohio Review winter online edition.

Professor, Adj. William Harper curated the AI photography exhibition Magical Realism at Perspective Photography Gallery. The exhibition features several SAIC community members, including Assistant Professor Doug Rosman.

Academic and Career Coach for Chicago Scholars Brandon Ishikata is being honored by his alma mater, San Diego State University, as one of their Rising Aztecs for 2025.

Professor Bruce Jenkins received a 2025 CAA Distinguished Teaching of Art Award.

Professor, Adj. Ginger Krebs will perform in 3-for-1 Psychic Special, presented as part of Steppenwolf Theatre’s LookOut performance series, on February 14 and 15.

Professor, Adj. Eric Leonardson performed at Color Club with his band, Ratchet, as a part of the Cross Modulations concert series organized by nonprofit Resonance Arts.

Visiting Assistant Professor Donato Loia was interviewed about his book, 1095 Short Sentences, by the online journal Blackbird. He was also recently spotlighted by Genealogies of Modernity and received the SAIC Residential Research Fellowship.

Professor, Adj. Catherine Ruggie-Saunders worked with the Newberry Library exhibit Making an Impression: Immigrant Printing in Chicago, leading eight former and current SAIC students to create their own broadside designs to share with exhibit visitors. The process was documented in a behind-the-scenes video.

Professor Mechtild Widrich’s book, Monumental Cares, received a review in Oxford Art Journal. The book was a finalist for the prestigious 2024 ASAP Prize, and it has become standard reading in courses at Harvard University, Columbia University, Bard College, Rice University, and other institutions. Art Journal Open ran an interview with Widrich on monuments and care, and the book received positive reviews in Caa.reviews, Public Art Dialogue, Art Margins, 21 Inquiries, and H-soz-net.
