Charlie Klecha (MArch 2014)

Charlie Klecha (March 2014) currently works with dPOP Design in their Detroit, Michigan, office as a Senior Designer. He also serves as Past President on the American Institute of Architecture Students’ National Board of Directors, and as Associate Director on the AIA Detroit Board of Directors. Charlie is a former member of the AIA National Board of Directors, and a Richard Upjohn Fellow of the AIA.

As National President of the AIAS for the 2014-2015 term, Charlie served a one-year term as the Chairman of the Board and a full-time staff member at the National Office in Washington, DC. The AIAS is an international, student-governed 501(c)3 NPO representing more than 26,000 students of architecture and design across the country and around the world. Notably, Charlie took on all seven divisions of the Architect Registration Exam (ARE) in seven days, and he successfully passed each of them. Typically, the exams are completed over a span of several years and are seen as a daunting task to many. These efforts were part of a campaign of the AIAS to promote a new scholarship encouraging early licensure among its recently graduated members. Klecha considers his education at SAIC a key component to his preparedness for the rigorous series of examinations.
