Four ceramic artworks are in view in green garden-like surroundings. Three of which are in the foreground on a rough orange rectangular table. The other artwork is a ceramic painting in the background hanging on an outdoor wall.

Ceramicist Jennifer Rochlin Profiled in W Magazine

Los Angeles–based ceramicist and School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum Jennifer Rochlin (MFA 1999) was recently profiled by W Magazine to discuss her large personal and cultural ceramic vessels as a part of her solo exhibition with Hauser & Wirth, Paintings on Clay. She utilizes a variety of techniques to achieve her terracotta vessels including underglazing, drawing, and even biting.

Her artwork often is inspired by current and former lovers and friends, as is the case with her Community Bites (2022) vessel. Inspired by a former lover's request to bite him, she infused the experience into her vessel by asking friends to directly bite it as a form of communal mark-making.
