Call for Faculty Research Fellows

Dear SAIC Faculty Members,

With the inauguration of the Institute for Curatorial Research and Practice this fall, we are pleased to announce the first call for Faculty Research Fellows, a two-year appointment open to all current full-time faculty as well as part-time faculty on a multi-year contract at SAIC. The applicant selected will begin their term as a Faculty Research Fellow in fall 2017 and conclude in spring 2019.

The Institute for Curatorial Research and Practice serves as an incubator for creative inquiry leading to future SAIC exhibitions, programs, and publications. It offers opportunities for critical exchange between SAIC, the Chicago arts community, and the curatorial field-at-large, fostering advanced thinking in the field.

Faculty Research Fellows of the Institute for Curatorial Research and Practice

Faculty Research Fellows will receive one course release each academic year for two consecutive years in order to research and develop a curatorial project as part of the Department of Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies programming. Among the forms a project may take are exhibitions, public programs, and publications. Once a project proposal is sufficiently developed by the Faculty Research Fellow, it will be reviewed by the Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies Faculty Committee, and the Department of Exhibitions to determine whether it will go on to the implementation phase.

Appointed Faculty Research Fellows will be required to submit progress reports at the end of each fall and spring semester during this two-year period. Faculty Research Fellows will also be asked to make presentations, attend curatorial institute programs and think tanks, and participate in other interactions as appropriate.

The Faculty Research Fellow’s investigation and project is not intended to be part of a class, though inclusion of the School community is always a priority; for submission of course-related exhibition proposals to the Department of Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies, see more information on this web page.

Review Process

The Department of Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies, the Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies Faculty Committee, and the Dean of Faculty will review all proposals. Up to one Faculty Research Fellow will be appointed each academic year.
