Alum Sydnie Jimenez Profiled by Chicago Reader

School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) alum Sydnie Jimenez (BFA 2020) was profiled by the Chicago Reader to mark her return after a residency at the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana. Jimenez found her place in the arts as a ceramicist during her time at SAIC. Her sculptures are youthful figures with distinct personalities inspired by internet subcultures and music scenes. Jimenez’s upbringing as the daughter of a white mother and Dominican father in a predominantly white neighborhood has influenced her practice, and her sculptures are purposefully ambiguous in race and gender to question the constructions of these social markers. Back in Chicago, Jimenez looks forward to fostering her teaching experience and strengthening roots in Chicago’s art scene.
