Alum Shin Yu Pai Honored with Poetry Society of America Award
Alum Shin Yu Pai (MFA 1999) was awarded a prestigious poetry honor: the 2024 Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America. Pai is the first Taiwanese American to receive this accolade. Selected by Gabrielle Calvocoressi and Yona Harvey, Pai is praised for her innovative, multidisciplinary work on themes such as ecology, motherhood, and cultural heritage. Currently the Civic Poet of Seattle, Pai is the author of 13 books, including No Neutral and Less Desolate. Her extensive work has earned accolades from numerous organizations, underscoring her significant contributions to contemporary poetry and the arts.
With her Stories by Strangers project, student Nitya Mehrotra uses her skills as an artist to tell the stories of sexual and mental abusive survivors.
