Alum Jeffrey Gibson’s Venice Biennale Show Going to The Broad
Highlighted in Hyperallergic, School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum Jeffrey Gibson (BFA 1995) brings his critically acclaimed Venice Biennale exhibition, the space in which to place me (2024), to The Broad Museum in Los Angeles this spring. Opening May 10 and running through September 28, the show features more than 30 works from Gibson’s U.S. Pavilion presentation, including paintings, sculptures, and textiles that challenge colonial narratives and celebrate Indigenous identity. Gibson, a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians with Cherokee ancestry, integrates Indigenous aesthetics, queer symbolism, and historical narratives into his work.
