A Newcity Design feature spotlighted LMRM (“loom room”), alum Hope Wang’s (BFA 2018) vibrant community hub for artists. Founded by Wang and Murat Ahmed, LMRM provides rental equipment, workshops, events, and collaborations. Wang discovered her passion for the adaptable constraints and collaborative nature of fiber art in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s loom room. This experience inspired her and Ahmed to create LMRM to maintain that vibrant, communal energy. Housing one of two publicly accessible TC2 digital jacquard looms in North America, their studio enables a diverse set of artists to quickly transform digital designs into woven pieces. LMRM’s incremental learning model supports short-term rentals, embracing the adaptable unpredictability and fostering engagement in the world of digital weaving
