Alum Ana Segovia Mocks Machismo at Venice Biennale

School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) alum Ana Segovia (BFA 2015) is featured in ArtNews for his colorful and confronting exhibition on machismo at the Venice Biennale. Known for challenging traditional Mexican identities, Segovia's work spans painting, video, and performance. During Mexico City’s art week in February 2020, his intervention at La Faena, a bullfighting-themed cantina, set the stage for his deconstruction of hyper-masculine tropes. At the Venice Biennale, Segovia adapted his 2021 show with the video Aunque Me Espine la Mano, depicting ambiguous charro figures in a neon pink, campy space.
