Street Style: First Day of School

a collage of student pictures from Street Style

Photos by Alan Epstein and Zachary Grey Phelps

On the first day of classes, School of the Art Institute of Chicago students came dressed to impress.

From circus inspiration to western wear, these style icons brought their own sartorial twists to the start of the fall semester. Our photographers took to the streets to snap these striking ensembles and get some info on how the subjects put their looks together.

“I don’t want to choose a style. I think a person’s style can change very fast because humans change very fast.”

“I’m influenced by a lot of J-fashion, like Lolita and Kawaii culture, and rave culture as well, like 2000s–scene kid is really fun to me.”

“Rock what you love. As soon as you’re rocking what someone else is trying to wear, that means you’re the second one there.”
