Visitor Policy
Visitor Policy
Valid student and employee ARTICards permit the holder to bring visitors or guests into the School. Campus Security reserves the right to limit the number of guests permitted at one time. For large groups, a guest list is needed and should be submitted to Campus Security with 24-hours notice.
-
Visitors to students may be granted access to SAIC's campus if:
- The student is present at the security desk to sign them in; and
- The student escorts the visitor at all times.
-
Visitors to faculty or staff may be granted access to SAIC's campus if:
- A faculty or staff member is present at the security desk to sign them in; thereafter, the faculty or staff member must escort the visitor at all times; or
- The visitor is announced by Campus Security to the faculty or staff member who they are visiting and is approved for access; thereafter, the visitor must proceed directly to the location of the faculty or staff member that approved their access and remain with them at all times.
If a visitor has not arrived in a reasonable time after being announced and approved, please notify Campus Security.
Visitors who are unaccompanied (or not en-route to or from the faculty or staff member to be visited) will be asked to leave the building.
Visitors over the age of 18 will verify their identity by showing a state photo identification card, having their photograph taken, and being issued a visitor ID label prior to entering the building. Visitors under the age of 18 and without a state photo identification card must be identified by their host, have their photograph taken, and be issued a visitor ID label prior to entering the building. Visitors under the age of 6 are not required to receive an ID label. The visitor's ID must be presented upon request.
Children
Children can be exposed to numerous potential safety and health hazards within the art school. These hazards can involve paints, solvents, chemicals, falling or sharp objects, power tools, welding, dust, fumes, and exposure from the art medium being used, etc. Given these risks, it is the policy of SAIC to not allow minor children in the graduate studios, shops, and other departments such as foundry, ceramics, power saw shops, welding and cutting, etc. where they could be exposed to increased risk of injury (this list is not meant to be all-inclusive).
Visiting Hours
All School academic facilities are open for visitor access 7:00–12:00 a.m. every day during the fall and spring semesters. The academic buildings are open for visitor access 7:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. every day during the summer and winter terms.
As a rule, persons authorized for overnight access are not permitted to have visitors with them after closing (12:00 a.m.). Those wishing to have visitors after closing should obtain written authorization that includes details concerning the access for the person and their visitor. This written authorization must come from (1) their Department Head or Administrative Director. It should be directed to (2) the Executive Director or Director of Campus Security.
Residence Halls
Residents may have visitors in the residence halls according to the policies and regulations established by Residence Life. As part of these policies, the School requires that all visitors/guests of students/residents remain in the company of their host while in the residence halls.
