Body/building is a group exhibition featuring works by artists in SAIC’s Master of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies program that explores the intimate choreography between human bodies, architectural spaces, and systems of knowledge. Here, the body is more than flesh and bone—it is a vessel of memory, shaped by structures we inhabit and ideas we carry. Walls blur into skins, texts become scaffolds, and spaces reflect us back, distorting and remaking how we move, think, and exist.

Here, the body becomes more than flesh and bone; it’s a blueprint for the spaces we create and the knowledge we build. Spaces, in turn, act as mirrors and molds, shaping how we move, think, and exist. By collapsing the boundaries between body and building, the exhibition invites us to consider how the personal and structural inform one another—how our bones carry architecture and our thoughts inhabit worlds of their own making.

The works on view trace these thresholds—where boundaries falter, and the self begins to take form again. What emerges when we dismantle what holds us? Where does the body end and the structure begin? Body/building reveals bodies of flesh and knowledge as always in flux—constructed, deconstructed, and remade.

Body/building was curated by Alison Campbell and Sophia Farmer with support from Tiana Sharpe.
