Amanda Vanvalkenburg

Personal Statement

Amanda VanValkenburg is a visual artist working with video, 3d, photography, painting, and drawing. She received her BFA in Painting/Drawing/Sculpture at Brigham Young University, studied digital media at Hochschule für Künste Bremen, and received her MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Film/Video/New Media/Animation. Her work has been exhibited in the MCA, Mana Contemporary, the Gene Siskel, the Elmhurst Museum, the Nightingale, 6018 North Gallery, Links Hall, LeRoy Neiman Center Gallery, and the Chicago Digital Media Festival. She is currently a sponsored High Concepts Labs artist.

You bring your creative interests ? 2D animation, 3D animation, video, and more ? and our incredible faculty of artists, designers, and scholars will work one-on-one with you to push your skills to the next level. You will build skills using software programs such as Adobe (Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects), and be introduced to both concepts and processes to storyboard and develop narratives. The course will include online demonstrations geared to your passions, visiting artist presentations, online museum resources, as well as time for self-directed work and comprehensive faculty advising. You?ll engage in discussions and critiques with a vibrant online community of other students from throughout the country and around the world, create portfolio-quality work, and receive comprehensive guidance on developing competitive applications for college admissions to art and design programs.

Description

Explore the principles and elements of motion applied to text and image using Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Learn to design with time, becoming familiar with basic principles of character animation and how they apply to motion design. Students are encouraged to realize their own vision, and not just replicate tutorials. This course is ideal for those looking to expand their skills from the land of print into the world of motion design. Prerequisite(s): Introduction to Graphic Design or equivalent experience.
