Beijing-native Xiang “Sean” Gu’s (MDes 2019) graduate collection of sculptural garments has earned him accolades in the New York City fashion world and at SAIC. Gu’s work is inspired by the freedom and rebelliousness of Hip-Hop culture.
Sneha Shah (BFA 2015) was named one of Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 in Europe in the category of Art & Culture. Shah, who was born in Mumbai, India, was honored for founding the company Curaty, which leases and sells curated fine art by artists who are early in their careers.
Born in Bangkok, Apichatpong Weerasethakul's (MFA 1998, HON 2011) work reveals stories often excluded in history in and out of Thailand: voices of the poor and the ill, marginalized beings, and those silenced and censored for personal and political reasons.
Born in Inner Mongolia, Kelly Xi (MFA 2023) uses light and glass to cultivate community with life-supporting microorganisms, creating habitats for bacteria, fungi, and algae within her neon sculptures.
